I can see how you might think that. “The Cult” and “How Things End” were both written within the last few months, and neither of them are light-hearted romps… particularly the latter.
But I wrote a big chunk of “Addition By Subtraction” years ago, and just completed it recently… so who gets credit for the “dark”, years-ago-me, or now-me? “Goodbye the Hard Way” is my most descriptively brutal piece, but its creative lifespan runs from 2014 to 2016. I feel like “Making a Monster of Me” is full-on psychological horror, and I was working on it from 2014 to 2015. A ton of my stuff is like that: a few paragraphs that sit there in my drafts for months or years before I go back and flesh them out.
And bear in mind, the first two actual, non-caption stories I posted to Tumblr were “Drown For Daddy” and “Our Secret”. I set a tone early on, is what I’m getting at here.
So I feel like the stories have *always* been dark… it’s all the other stuff that varies.
