I’ve decided Brit Marling is a genius. I had my suspicions after watching Another Earth many years ago, where she took both a well-worn premise and the dubious charisma of William Mapother and from them built a beautifully small movie about the biggest of events. But after watching The OA Part 2, I’m convinced she’s the real deal.
She’s out there making feminine —and feminist, I suppose, but more than that— sci-fi, something that very seldom reaches the mainstream, and she’s doing it fearlessly. And for a show that was never really meant to be an ongoing thing, Part 2 does an impressive job of ex post facto world building.
Watch it. It’s weird, but in a wonderful way.
