Hm. I don’t know that I can give you one, but here are a bunch that are favorites for various reasons:
- Stiletto… because Billy’s masochistic view of romance helped a pre-teen me understand how the other half lives.
- An Innocent Man… because I identified with it a lot as a kid.
- Scenes from an Italian Restaurant… because I’m a sucker for a story-song.
- Only the Good Die Young… because good girls make the best bad girls.
- And So It Goes… because I’m just sentimental about it.
- Code of Silence… because Cyndi Lauper sings backup on it, and like An Innocent Man, it reminds me of a time before I knew I could make a girl bare her soul. (It used to be a much more labor-intensive process.)
- Big Man On Mulberry Street… because of its Broadway vibe and the fact that they used it in an episode of Moonlighting, which 95% of you don’t even know existed because you’re babies.
