There’s seven years of sex, romance, existential angst, literature, media criticism, and general smart-assery here. Which “this” are we talking about? And why are the alternatives “kink” and “genuine”?
In one sense, a kink is an eroticization of something that isn’t inherently erotic… I suppose you could say that’s not genuine, since it’s a reclamation or repurposing of a thing rather than the thing itself.
But looked at another way, kink can also be a psychosexual vaccine… a dead/mutated/engineered form of something bad, injected into a system to trigger a desired response that defends the integrity of the system. There’s nothing inauthentic about how it makes people feel… it just helps them feel at a rational, sustainable, fulfilling level.
