Try thinking less.
It’s wonderful, having that urge to please… I’m proud of you. But you have to give people room to think about your actions, consider them, and ultimately appreciate them. If you give him everything all at once, he’ll never notice the individual trees and might just fuck around and cut down the forest.
But give him one thing —better than he ever imagined— and he’ll never forget you.
Oh, and be sure he’s worth it. Not as he might be, nor as he was… as he is, right now. Only exceptional men should get exceptional effort.
