Is it true that most subs are abuse victims? I’ve seen a lot of the traditional stereotype of “sub develops daddy kink stemming from childhood trauma” and I was curious how much weight that claim holds.

Yes, a lot of subs are sexual abuse victims, because a lot of girls in general are victims of sexual abuse. But “most”? Not in my experience. I’d put it at 50/50, and that might be overstating it.
You’ve got to understand how little it takes to spawn a kink. I knew a girl who watched Bug Bunny get tied up by Marvin the Martian when she was eight, and subsequently spent the rest of her life trying to get boys to treat her the same way. I know girls whose moms were miserable tyrants and whose dads were passive, and now they seek out controlling men so they don’t end up like Mommy. I know girls who read about Helen of Troy and longed to be so important to a man that he would burn down the world to possess them.
