Probably Magnolia. We were talking about it on the stream the other day… aside from Angelo Badalamenti’s work for Twin Peaks, I’ve probably listened to the Magnolia soundtrack more than any other.

Unless you count Hamilton.

Actually, someone reminded me today of another movie soundtrack that Teen Me probably listened to even more than Adult Me listed to Magnolia:

Trick or Treat was a rather mundane ‘80s horror movie about bullies and a demonic rock star… its sole distinguishing feature —other than starring the kid who played Skippy on Family Ties— was that it didn’t have a conventional compilation soundtrack. Even though the movie included Gene Simmons and Ozzy as actors, the soundtrack is all originals from a British band called Fastway.

I liked my metal screechy —which is why I was a fan of Guns N’ Roses, Cinderella, and (much later) Soundgarden— so Fastway was right up my alley. The video for “After Midnight” saw decent rotation on MTV, but the album faded quickly, along with the film. Even worse, the band immediately broke up, just as I had become a fan.

But for about a year, that thing lived in my cassette deck.
