I don’t know enough about how folks are interpreting that diagnosis these days to have a definitive opinion… at this point, a broad array of people live under one umbrella. What I can say is this:

  1. An ability to read complex emotional cues —or an ability to eroticize and romanticize abject and ongoing confusion— is a baseline requirement.
  2. I speak in metaphors. I tuck hurtful thoughts inside glowing praise, and vice versa. I am seldom wholly or clearly anything. With that established, my gut says that anyone who spends more than a few days scrolling my blog will self-select themselves out of my audience if they struggle with that sort of uncertainty and indirection.
  3. I need some degree of articulate emotional expression. Obviously, I don’t have lofty expectations here… but “I don’t know” is only acceptable when accompanied by an apology and continued, persistent effort to resolve the answer.
  4. Other than that, the central requirement remains the same: make my life better.
