Hey, Toxic is an objectively good song! And okay, I’ll grant that …Baby One More Time is a bit simplistic, but I’m always fascinated by the ways society can embrace perversity if you make it pretty enough, and that video is more or less a master class in convincing half the world to gleefully sexualize a sweet, slow girl. (The other half was eventually convinced by LaChapelle’s photo shoot in Rolling Stone.)
And Slave 4 U? C’mon, how can I not love that? The song is solid, pertinent to my interests, and that midriff with those low-rise jeans was just… my god, it’s full of stars.
