Over the last decade, She-Hulk was stripped of all of that and got turned into the same, dim-witted, angry muscle collossus Hulk used to be when he started out.

Neal Adams (1941-2022)
He passed a few days ago, but I’m only now up to saying something. Part of that is because I’ve got the flu, but part of it is because I’m just fucking sad.
The first Neal Adams comic I purchased was Superman vs.… Read the rest “Neal Adams (1941-2022)”
Heey I just bought a copy of all the Hitchhiker’s Guide books!
Now that I know it’s one of your favorites I’ll pass it to the top of my readings c:

I hope the books hold up for you. I worry that Adams’ work was so influential that it’s gonna be a little like watching Animal House after you’ve been raised on a diet of Porky’s, Revenge of the Nerds, and Fraternity Vacation… you can see that the original is objectively of higher quality, but all the delight has been drained from it by its derivatives.… Read the rest “Heey I just bought a copy of all the Hitchhiker’s Guide books!”

Do you have any favorite books?
I’ve probably answered this before, but I’m too lazy to search the archive.

- The Republic (Plato)
- From Hell (Alan Moore & Eddie Campbell)
- The Swerve (Stephen Greenblatt)
- The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (Douglas Adams)
- Guards!
How do you feel about middle aged white men throwing a fit because She-Hulk…
…is “Cancel culture turning another strong male character into a female”? Personally it is my current favorite train wreck reading

That’s… a thing that’s happening? What? Like this She-Hulk, who’s been bouncing around the Marvel universe since I was a preteen?… Read the rest “How do you feel about middle aged white men throwing a fit because She-Hulk…”
have you read any koontz?
My dad had a bunch of his stuff around the house when I was a kid, but it didn’t strike my fancy.
If you’re a good girl, eventually you’ll find yourself curled up in bed, listening to me read Laura’s diary to you like the grimmest of fairy tales.
Do you like Douglas Adams?
Very much. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe in particular is near to my heart, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide was the gateway to a lot of lesser stuff —like Alan Dean Foster’s Spellsinger, Esther Friesner’s Here Be Demons and Craig Shaw Gardner’s A Malady of Magicks— and eventually, Pratchett.
Are there any dark novels that you would recommend? Or maybe authors that have writing style similar to yours ?
The writers with whom I feel a minor stylistic affinity aren’t novelists. They are:
- Adrian Tomine (cartoonist: Shortcomings, Summer Blonde, 32 Stories)
- Neil Labute (writer/director: In The Company of Men, Your Friends & Neighbors)
- David Baerwald (singer/songwriter: Bedtime Stories, Triage)
Honorable mentions go to Chuck Palahniuk —I’ve never read his work, but a number of people have suggested a similarity— and I’ll also throw in Jennifer Lynch, since I’ve been re-reading The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, and it’s even more fucked-up and insane than I remembered.… Read the rest “Are there any dark novels that you would recommend? What is your favourite book?
I’m not sure, overall.
As a kid, it was Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH. As a teen, it was The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. In my twenties, it was probably A Brief History of Time, The Art of Human-Computer Interface Design, or Steven Levy’s Hackers.… Read the rest “What is your favourite book?”
