Questions and Answers

Hey hello I’m sorry for bothering you but I really need to speak to someone about this. I’ve felt trapped bottling up this confession and need to tell someone and as tumblr is usually a place open to people of all opinions and preferences I figured this is as good a place as any. ‘When You Were Young’ is a better song than ‘Mr. Brightside’.

This is the kind of safe space I am proud to provide for the weirdos of the world.

I’m going to play the middle and say Mr. Brightside is an objectively better song, but I prefer When We Were Young. Brightside has a more memorable video —that pretty girl and sweaty Eric Roberts!— but I had to sing When We Were Young 1,001 times while obsessively playing Rock Band in 2008, and I’m now brainwashed into loving it.

(Same thing happened with Weezer’s Say It Ain’t So. I didn’t give a shit about Weezer —aside from Buddy Holly— before Rock Band.)

Not to insert myself into this controversial narrative but what about Somebody Told Me? The implied androgyny in the chorus warmed my little bisexual heart before I even understood why and it is catchy as all get out.

Okay, now you’re just making things complicated. Yes, Somebody Told Me is very good, and to a certain degree, it’s the song I automatically think of when someone says “The Killers”. But I actually feel All These Things That I’ve Done is better, probably because I watched them do it live with a backing choir on Austin City Limits one night.
